Bex's 10 Fanfiction Links

Supernatural is my canon and I've got a whole bunch of links here. Supernatural is about two brothers, Sam and Dean Wincester, who travel around America in an Impala hunting monsters; ghosts, ghouls, demons, vampires, werewolves. Anything and everything.

It is written from Dean's POV in third person. The plot is set after Dean makes a deal with a demon to bring his brother back from the dead. He has a year to live before the demon takes him to Hell. Sam and Dean go after some sort of creature at a Fourth of July party in Suburbia.
The story is well written and the author captures the underlying currents of emotions between the two boys while focusing on the hunt at hand. The story moves fast and the dialogue is spot on for the two characters.

Set after Sam and Dean's father makes a deal with a demon and goes to Hell to save his son.
The story is told from Sam's point of view in third person as he and his brother collect their father's body and prepare it to be burned. It's told in short scenes which works because it focuses the emotion. Most of the story is Sam watching Dean and the characters are well drawn, their grief isn't melodramatic and at the same time is heartbreaking to watch.

So this is an alternate universe fic. Dean comes back from Hell, an hour after he was sent there, broken and Sam looks after him. It is third person told from Sam's POV. I liked the descriptions and the writing style and the author makes us care for characters that are only minor, giving everyone a personality. The storyline was interesting, Sam and Dean investigating a series of spontaneous combustions, but I felt the ending of that confusing and lacking in drama and action. I'd have liked to see more action from Sam and Dean in taking the antagonist down.

This is a hilarious story about Dean being cursed to talk in txt language. It's awesome.

Told from Sam's POV we see how the months of Dean's death affected him and how he can't let go of that even when Dean is back. The voices of each character is perfect, the dialogue spot on and the relationship between the brothers is incredibly touching. The writer does a good job of moving through the emotions and building the story up without going over the top and keeping it simple.

Told from Sam's POV as the brothers are growing up. The story is very simple, moving from town to town with the brothers and giving no more then five lines for each place as Sam tries to work out what his brother is doing with sharpies drawing on furniture in each of the motels they stay at. It seems that it's easy to get into the voices of Dean and Sam because once again the dialogue is spot on, nothing about it forced. Th only thing I didn't like about this story was we never do know WHY Dean writes his initials and the date on the furniture, he refuses to answer Sam's question properly but it's an interesting story all the same.

Once again told from Sam's POV this is an overview of the brother's life on the road from childhood up to when he starts hunting again after Stanford. There's some great imagery in this and the opening paragraph is an amazing piece of writing. The story flows beautifully, going from large deductions to little tiny facts about their lives that give the characters an extra dimension.

This is a crossover fic between Supernatural and Criminal Minds. It is told in third person and varies the character whose pov we see it from. I liked the story overall although I found the dialogue a little off in some places. I don't know the criminal mind characters very well so their dialogue was fine but Dean's voice wasn't quite right and I find that really affects a story. It also read a lot like a script, not many descriptions but a lot of quick dialogue, which was okay for some parts but then it made the whole story feel like it had less of an atmosphere.

Told in third person from multiple characters. Another Supernatural/Criminal Minds crossover. I liked this a lot more then the above one. The characters had great dialogue. I felt it did drag in places though, and in the end it was rushed too fast.

Crossover between Supernatural and X-Men. The author uses the X-Men canon and puts the Supernatural characters of Dean and Sam in there. It is a short story told without much dialogue. It is written from Dean's POV in third person. The story is really all in the descriptions and they are vivid and well written.
